Port Smith
We left Cape Levique planning to stop in at Broome to pick up a parcel from the post office, then head to Roebuck Roadhouse for a one night stay in a cabin before heading down the coast.
By the time we picked up the parcel and some other bits and pieces we arrived at the Roadhouse at about 1400 hrs, only to find that they had no cabins, unfortunately the camp ground looked awful so we decided to move on choosing Port Smith as our next stop.
We chose Port Smith because we had been told that the caravan park there was very nice and the fishing was fantastic.

Port Smith Caravan Park
Port Smith is 160 kilometers south of Broome and sealed all the way except for the last 23 kilometers which is a well maintained dirt road.
SAND FLIES, John, and I mean sand flies, our last experience with sand fly bites pales in comparison with the bites we got here.
If it wasn't for the fact that we got eaten alive by sand flies while in the caravan park it would have been a great place, the park itself was nice, big sites, good amenities, nice hosts.

It was only a short drive from the caravan park to Port Smith Lagoon where we fished, it was a great location and at low tide it was possible to fish into some deep channels where we had been told numerous varieties of large and small fish were able to be caught.
We did pretty well having some fun catching some Garfish, and a couple of good size eating fish.
There must be some decent fish in there because I got cut off a couple of times, the line busting off as soon as I tried to set the hook.

In retrospect If we had known that this place was renowned for sand flies we would have gone elsewhere, unfortunately it caused us some discomfort for a week or so afterwards, especially Joanne who they seemed to love the most.
