Planned Route

We have planned our route on this trip trying to incorporate parts of the country that have not seen, of course we will travel through some familiar area to get to places we have not been to.
Roughly speaking we will travel 18,000 kl over a 26 week period, during this time we will travel through every State in Australia, that's if we do Tasmania, which depends on time.
We have planned the route we will follow, and have a basic plan in regards to where we will stop, but have not really made concrete plans in regards to how long our stopovers will be, we don't want to tie ourselves down to anywhere in particular as some place may appeal more to us than others.
The exception being the fact that there are certain very popular places that booking is essential.

As far as accommodation is concerned we will be in our camper trailer 99% of the time, what will vary is where we pitch it, and how long we stay in each place, to make this trip a little less hectic we are aiming to stay at lease two nights in any one place
We would like to vary our accommodation a bit between free camps and caravan parks, powered and non-powered sites, with the occasional stopover in a cabin for a night or two of luxury.

Having a soft floor camper sometimes dictates to where we stay, we come across places where the camping area is gravel or stony, not a good option for a soft floor.
Another issue we have encountered is the size of some allocated camping spots, our camper when fully opened with the annex attached is 7x5 mt, we have had some very tight fits at time and have been very cosy with the neighbors.
The amount of slope on the campsite is also a governing factor, its hard to set up a soft floor a any significant slope.

The Route
This is just a very basic description of our proposed route and will without doubt change as we travel around, depending on how much we like particular places.

Or trip starts off in Rosewood QLD, from there we travel through outback Queensland towards Innamincka.

From Innaminck we travel South to Lyndhurst along the Strezlecki Track, then North along the Birdsville Track to Birdsville.

From Birdsville further north to Boulia where we start heading west, from there we get onto the The Plenty Hwy which takes us to the Stuart Hwy just above Alice Springs.

Turning off The Stuart Hwy just above Alice we head North West along the Tanami Track, the Tanimi is a short cut to Halls Creek from Alice.

From Halls Creek we travel North East on the Great Northern Hwy up towards Kunnanura, along the way we will stop at Bungle Bungle NP.

We plan to make Kunnanurra our home base for a week or so while we see the surrounding area including Lake Argyle and Wyndham.

Travelling back down from Kunnanurra we veer west onto the Gibb River Rd exploring the Mitchell Plateau and Kalumburu along the way to Derby.

Once we reach Derby we get back onto the on the Great Northern Hwy and ten make our way to Broome, from where we will head North up to Cape Leveque

After Cape Leveque we travel back through Broome and onto Port Headland, where we get onto the North West Coastal Hwy making our way towards Perth, stopping at places like Marble Bar, Karratha, Exmouth and Carnavon to name just a few places.

Continuing South we stay on the North West Coastal Hwy as far as Geraldton, along the way we hope to enjoy some coastal camping, see Monkey Mia, and Dirk Hartog Island, and many other amazing places.

Leaving Geraldton we travel on the Brand Hwy towards Perth and Fremantle, we have no idea were we are going to stop along here or how many side trips we will do.

We have some family in Perth so may stay there for a little while exploring Perth, Freemantle and the surrounding area.
From Perth we continue South to Bunbury.

From Bunbury we follow Bussell Hwy hugging the coast around to Augusta where we turn Eastward toward Albany.

We follow the Brockman Hwy from Augusta inland to Bridgetown, where we we get onto the South Western Hwy which will take us to Albany, and onto the South Coast Hwy as far as Esperance.

From Esperance we head North again on the Coolgardie Esperance Hwy through Norseman up to Kalgoorlie.

Back to Norseman and Eastward on the Eyre Hwy across the Nullarbor Plain through WA and into SA.
We have not planned any stopovers along the Nullarbor, we will play it by ear as we travel, I dont thing we will have any trouble finding places to camp along the way.

Crossing the WA/SA border at Eucla we continue on the Eyre Hwy as far as Ceduna where we follow the coast along the Flinders Hwy to Port Lincoln.

Between Ceduna and Port Lincoln we hope to visit Streaky Bay and Coffin Bay NP, and while at Port Lincoln the Lincoln NP.

Leaving Port Lincoln we travel North east along the Lincoln Hwy up to Port Augusta.

From Port Augusta we travel South to explore the Yorke Peninsula for a little while before heading into Adelaide, and into the Fleurieu Peninsula from where we would like to cross the Backstairs Passage over to Kangaroo Island if time permits.

From Adelaide we get onto Hwy One and travel through
Murray Bridge and Tailem Bend down to Mt Gambier and Port McDonald.
Not really sure where we will stay as we travel this area but will research possibilities in the weeks leading up to arriving in the area.

From Mt Gambier we cross the border into Victoria just before Nelson, then follow the coast visiting Discovery Bay Coastal Park on the way to Portland.

From Portland we get back onto the Princess Hwy (1), and travel to Port Fairy and Warnambool.

After leaving Warrnambool we will follow the Great Ocean Road through Port Campbell, Apollo Bay, Lorne, Torquay, and onto Melbourne.

We have family in Melbourne so will spend some time there catching up and and getting used to living in a house again before making our way home through NSW and into Queensland, a trip we have done many times in the Past.
